It’s Always a Pleasure Interviewing a Brilliant Senior Manager or Director
It’s always humbling to hear so often “you don’t seem like a typical recruitment consultant”.
There’s a lot of bad press about “recruiters” both external and internal. So lets put aside all the bad experiences and negativity, to focus on the positives.
According to the REC the recruitment industry is worth £28B in turnover and that’s not by accident.
An intelligent, professional Recruitment Consultant learns about digital and disruptive innovation on a daily basis from interviewing a Director or Technical subject matter experts. We support you in your quest to find a match for day to day job satisfaction, long term stability and a vehicle to fulfill your purpose in life.
“A thorough method, produces a reliable outcome”, a former boss once highlighted. If you spend 70-80% of your time as Business Analysts, challenge ideology as Consultants, research suitable candidates, and manage your process as project managers, the rest will be easy for your customers. If you translate needs in to ideal culture and behaviour matches for all parties, the method contributes to 3-5+ year tenures or numerous Contractor extensions and highly productive teams. I am sure you know, that the best customer experience comes from organisations with the happiest people?
Imagine how it feels when you are served with beautifully prepared, cooked and presented food which appeals to all your 5 senses? Those same feelings will be roused by a candidate suitable for your business or a business suitable for your long term commitment… some might say; like falling in love?
Another quote from the former boss was, “Knowledge is Power!” I agree to an extent, and I understand why you are becoming more interested in soaking up our knowledge. Unlike your previous experiences you see the value in our processes, knowledge and empathy during real life meetings and in depth relationships. Power comes with experience, and must be used knowing that you are accountable and responsible for the information you provide.
People have referred to me as “an educator, who curates and facilitates change”.
Does that sound like the definition of a Recruitment Consultant? It does to me… and to many of my customers; some of which date back to 2001. One of the biggest compliments I treasure is when customers say… “They are a natural fit. Well done!”
There are many values to retained services which positively impacts both candidates and clients however it’s not always required. A quality recruiter is developing relationships in the marketing or technology functions on a daily basis, by referral and confidentially. Often, initial services can be on a contingent basis, preferably exclusive, unless there’s a need for confidential search and selection or benefits to be earned from co-branded advertising.
A report called Job Exodus Trends 2016, found in an article by Robyn Vinter states that 49% of you intend to quit your job this year. Some of the senior talent that we’ve interviewed have demonstrated great loyalty to exisiting firms however it’s time for them to find pastures new.
A typical example is a Managing Director / CTO with rapid progression over the last 15 years from software developer quickly in to managerial and business leadership roles creating innovative digital technology products for global corporate customers in the digital asset production, advertising, marketing and branding domain. Excellent technical and interpersonal skills with a management and technical team “on stand-by” to join a new organisation; which in itself it a huge talent attraction cost saving and productivity booster.
Another professional is a Group Digital Director from a Marketing background with an multi-channel online, website team comprising strategy, UX, product, software development. Idealised, developed and delivered a number of innovative digital solutions with extensive experience in the publishing, media, data intelligence segments over the last 15 years. A wide variety of growth achievements at 20-30% improvements or similar cost savings as an end-user brand and digital agency employee.
Both candidates are London oriented, and less interested in whether their next opportunity is permanent or an interim contract as the job satisfaction, culture, and prospects are more important.
If either of these profiles sound like you, you’re clearly not alone.
Put simply, a good recruitment consultant will provide accurate education on your best options, facilitate a productive outcome, and play a key part in curating a positive experience that will help you maintain productivity in both your work and life balance. They don’t “get the job” for you… that’s down to you!
Some of the most useful advice I can share, is to trust your gut feeling when making career decisions and try to change your existing situation before looking externally.
I hope messages in this article provoke thought, reassure current practices, or act as a catalyst for change.
